چکیده
This paper discusses problems concerning the design of educational applications in general, as well as specific problems connected with educational applications meant to be published on the Web. A new approach to the authoring and maintaining of Web-based educational applications is proposed which is based on the concept of hypermedia composites. Hypermedia composites can be seen as a higher level of hypermedia authoring; the hypermedia composite represents a collection of multimedia documents and/or other hypermedia composites. The Hypermedia Composite Data Model allows the possibility of defining many different "classes" of educational applications, to best match the requirements of a particular application. The architecture, components and functions of the Structure Editor, a system that implements the Hypermedia Composite Data Model, are described. Includes six figures. Web Based Training : What do We Expect from the System
In this paper we analyze the term “WBT” from different perspectives and claim that the authoring, communicational and data access tools currently available on the Internet are not sufficient to fully exploit the tremendous educational power of the largest information and communication resource mankind has ever had. We contend that primitive hypermedia node-link data model and its most prominent...
متن کاملAspects of Collaborative Authoring in WBT Systems
The paper discusses possibilities of constructing new training objects automatically, on-the-fly as a result of any collaborative activity within a WBT system. Such collaborative activities may include participating in discussion forums, brainstorming sessions, writing document annotations, etc. This feature might be seen as collaborative authoring of training objects in WBT systems. Technical ...
متن کاملIntroducing hypermedia composites to WWW
This paper analyses current trends in hypermedia data modelling and suggests that composites are a necessary ingredient for any efficient authoring paradigm. The paper describes the motivations for using composites on an authoring level. It points out that WWW defines the notion of nodes and links, but it does not support composite components. It also examines the interplay between standard nav...
متن کامل9. A Didactics Aware Approach to Knowledge Transfer in Web-based Education
In this chapter we argue that the current Web-based educational systems, as well as the recent standardization efforts in this field are strongly technologycentric. Because of this, such endeavors usually neglect the didactic component of Web-based education thus becoming completely didactic-neutral. However, recent research in the field shows that in order to achieve improvements in efficient ...
متن کاملReusing Discussion Forums as Learning Resources in Wbt Systems
Discussion forums are highly popular and widely applied tools in Web-based training (WBT) systems. Usually, discussion forums are places where learners discuss topics related to courseware, their current learning task, or the learning project they are working on. These discussion forums contain tremendous educational potential for future learners, since they contain question and answer dialogue...
